This past summer, I was given the opportunity to work as a summer camp counselor at a local health club in my hometown. Being my second year working there, I decided to use this opportunity to improve my leadership skills, while at the same time making connections with my counseling experience to my past and future experience as a student teacher. As a camp counselor, I was responsible for the supervision and care of children, ages ranging from 3-12, for seven hours a day, five days a week. The counselors led the campers in activities such as crafts, swimming and tennis lessons, various outdoor and indoor group games, and so on. Different from my first summer as a counselor, this summer I used this experience to cultivate my leadership abilities, incorporate more activities that promote learning, and work on refining my classroom management skills.
